The "HOLE" Story...

This hole was dug on Saturday and soon will be home to a new tree, but...meanwhile...it is being used by a 2 and 5 year old as a clubhouse. The rules to this 'newly formed' clubhouse:

~ To be a member, you must be able to 'fit' inside the clubhouse

~ There is only enough room for a President & VP in the club

~ You must eat all snacks outside the clubhouse, for there is no room inside

~ You must enjoy getting dirty

~ No whining about your legs falling asleep!

and...last but not least...

~ NO MOMS ALLOWED!

This is my favorite 7 year old in the whole world...

This little boy goes through so much every day and is such a good trooper about it. Last night we were up several hours with him. He wasn't feeling very good and had a fever most the night. Early this morning he looked at me and said, "Mom, thank you for taking good care of me. Thank you for helping me get better so I don't get really sick."

That was enough to melt my heart. *sigh*

Yeah, it could of been that he was half asleep or that he was pretty medicated, but just the same...this 7 year old is one of my heros!

Flashback Friday

Yup, it's really been that long ago...

It was our anniversary this month. Wow! What we've been through and what we're going to go through, I'm so blessed to be able to go through it with my very best friend *sigh*

My oldest neice just got engaged this week and hearing how the proposal went and seeing the ring and hearing their plans brought back a flood of memories from my day 13 years ago...

I still remember the look on his face when he saw me for the first time in my wedding dress

I can remember the butterflies in my stomach as we walked into the sealing room hand in hand

I remember the HUGE smiles we had walking out of the temple to greet our family and friends (and how he accidentally stepped on my wedding dress).

I still remember our song we danced to at the reception and the way he held me tight and the way he smelled.

Such good memories with such a great guy!

I'm so excited for my neice to have her day and enjoy the moments and memories she will be making...then 13 years later she can blog about them :D hee he hee

10 yr. old carpool girl: "Austin, you won't be saying that when you're 18. When you're 18, you'll be wanting girl cooties."

Austin: "No way! Girl cooties are worse than H1N1 disease, I will never want them!"

carpool girl: "Trust me...you will."

Austin: "N-E-V-E-R"

carpool girl: "All men, well...all tough men want girl cooties. And if you don't ever want them that means you will be alone, live alone, eat alone, sleep alone...no one to wash your clothes, or fix you dinner. Believe me, you will WANT girl cooties."

Austin: "No way. Lets take a vote...who in here hates girl cooties?"

Many hands flew up...seeing how our car is full of boys.

This is the new Alco going up in St. Johns. I had no idea it was this huge. The guys have done an amazing job, especially only being a six man crew...wow!

I guess they haven't been horsing around too much :) Still, I can't wait for it to be done and have my husband back. Y

JDRF 2009 Walk Results

Just an update on the 2009 JDRF Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes. This year The Walk raised, are you ready....$1.5 million dollars for diabetes research! Yes! There were over 19,000 walkers supporting the cause. We're excited that our team got to be a part of it all again this year. And a BIG thank you for all the family & friends that supported us either by donating, walking with our team or just by having Westin in your thoughts. Thank you. We can't wait for more research to be done and hopefully soon....a cure!

Just When You Think They're Not Paying Attention...

A few months ago, for family home evening, we did our family rights. The kids helped out with suggestions and ideas, but seemed more interested in just getting it done with. And to be honest, we really haven't talked too much about it since. Well, a couple days ago, I had all the kids with me at the grocery store (only running in for a few things, right?). Westin kept after me about getting him this certain kind of yogurt.

"No Westin, you will not like it. Trust me."

"Please, please, please. I will like it."

After going back and forth several times like this, he says, "Remember our family rights? I have the right to try new things!" Enough said. He was right. I was wrong. I purchased the yogurt.

The next morning we all stood around him, starring...waiting...as he opened his yogurt and took the first bite. Not bad. The first bite went down and he ate a second bite. But, by the third bite he had decided he indeed did not like it and vowed to never ask for it again. I'm very proud of him for giving it a try. I wonder what else they remember about our family rights?

2009 Walk For A Cure

We want a cure for juvenile diabetes (type 1 diabetes). Therefore, every year we "Walk for a Cure" at the JDRF Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes. We walked with our team last Saturday (Oct. 31st). Why do we walk? Why do we want a cure? Why do we care? Because, our Westin has type 1 diabetes and we want a cure!

Juvenile Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin in the body. The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is still unknown. Scientists do know that in most people it is caused by their body's own immune system, which normally fights off harmful bacteria and viruses, mistakenly destroys the insulin-producing cells in their pancreas.

Westin was diagnosed when he was only two. While the rest of us were getting over being sick, he continued to get worse with other symptoms and lose weight until he was hospitalized. This is when his world (and ours) changed. With constant blood glucose monitoring and regular insulin injections, he can lead an active, healthy, productive life just like anyone else...but insulin is NOT a cure! There are still many risk factors involved with having juvenile diabetes and we want a real cure, therefore, we walk for a cure!

The walk is always a lot of fun and we always have great family support! WE LOVE YOU WESTIN!

Halloween Fun

This October has been a busy one...but very fun! The kids all dressed up for our ward trunk-r-treat:

Stockton as a horse (not by choice)

We were invited to the Rogers "Eat Dead Fred" night. It's their tradition to eat 'Fred' the Monday before Halloween and our kids love to be invited...they have soooo much fun. And Aunt Nanny sure does put on a good show!

Aunt Nanny makes some ever-so-yummy witches brew too (homemade root beer)!

Layton also had his preschool Halloween parade and party. Fun, fun, fun!

Fun times enjoyed by all and needless to say...the kids now have a life time supply of candy and treats! Yeah!

What a Surprise!

In our ward, cub scouts that are advancing from bears to webelos, must advance by 'wrestling the bear'. The 'bear' is usually the boys father. Well, we've been putting off Austin wrestling the bear since September, because Denver has been working out of town and Austin didn't want to wrestle any other 'bear'. I spoke to the bear leader last week and told her Austin wouldn't be able to do it until Novembers pack meeting. But last week our family got ONE BIG SURPRISE! The 'bear' had made his own arrangements with the bear leader and showed up in town for Thursday night pack meeting! So Austin got to wrestle the bear and advance into webelos. I sure love a good surprise!

Oh boy, there were big plans planned for today. Plans to start the day bright n' early, plans to finish up the few chores and projects left from yesterday, plans to get the boys to school on time, plans to run to town and get all the errands done in no time at all, BUT........plans changed or should I say the boys had different plans. They planned to start their day bright n' early and they planned to go "fishing" and just like boys do...they had made no plans beyond that! They had decided that the BIG water puddle made from the cracked irrigation port would be the perfect "fishing" spot. It's a mystery what transpired from that point to the point of them coming into the house with wet and muddy clothes, shoes, hair, etc. but I'm gonna guess the "fish" got away. And somehow the cat didn't manage to stay dry and clean either (I'm sure it got some help in that matter). So, in all the hustle and bustle of trying to get kids clean and warm again and fed and backpacks packed, the cat runs in the house and shakes all the wet mud off its body and all over everything else! Yes, big plans were planned for today but plans have now changed and IT'S NOT EVEN NOON YET!
